MONROE ELEMENTARY
Community Consolidated School District 181
About Monroe School
Monroe School is proud to be a U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon and Green Ribbon School. Monroe School strives for excellence and does what is best for every child. "Growing to Learn, Learning to Grow" is the school motto and one that is at the heart of what we do in this community. We help children grow and become responsible, respectful, well-educated citizens.
The original two-story school was constructed in 1928 and has undergone several renovations and additions over the years.
Monroe School was named a 2018 Green Ribbon School for its innovative efforts to reduce environmental impact and costs, promote better health, and ensure effective environmental education. Monroe was one of 46 schools across the country to receive the award and one of four in Illinois. Monroe has a decades-long commitment to environmental education through its "Living Classroom Learning Lab," now in its 23rd year. To read about all of Monroe's Green efforts, click here.
