Community Consolidated School District 181
Clarendon Hills Middle School, home of the Eagles, is proud to be a U.S. Department of Education National Blue Ribbon School. Our school serves 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students and is consistently ranked as one of the top middle schools in Illinois.
We pride ourselves on being a student-centered, forward-thinking learning environment. CHMS is an incredible place to work and learn and our students, staff and community create a special, unique, and welcoming environment
Clarendon Hills Middle School opened August 28, 2000. Walter A. Kistenfeger, Jr. served as the school's first principal, having previously led Hinsdale Middle School. The construction was funded by passage of a referendum in November 1997.
Dear Parents and Staff,
We wanted to inform you of an accident in downtown Clarendon Hills earlier this morning where a truck crossing at Prospect was hit by a train. We were notified that this caused the car to roll over and catch on fire.
We wanted to let you know that all of our buses that traverse nearby routes arrived safely and were not affected. Additionally, we have determined that all of our students and staff arrived safely as well, though we know that some had unfortunately witnessed the accident during their commute. Staff is watching for any distress in students and will alert our school social workers as needed. Counseling will be available throughout the day for any students or staff who need to process the event.
In addition, we were notified by the Village of Clarendon Hills that the train track crossing at Prospect is closed to traffic and pedestrians until further notice. As a result, there may be a delay for some buses and students returning home from school this afternoon. They have been asked to use the west Hinsdale crossing or the Cass Avenue crossing in Westmont.
Please contact your school principal or my office if you have questions or concerns.
