The colorful butterfly mural painted on the walls of Prospect School does more than remind students to "Be the Change You Want to Be." The mural is a partnership between the school, its 4th and 5th grade GIRLS Club and "Butterfly Effect, Be The Change." Butterfly Effect, Be the Change is a not-for-profit that produces interactive art installations in public spaces and provides donations to social service organizations.

When a student or other individual has their photo taken in front of the butterfly wings and posts it on social media, the organization will donate $1 to a charity of the GIRLS Club's choice. The GIRLS Club researched charities and chose to have donations given to girlforward.com of Chicago, an organization serving girls ages 14-21 who identify as refugees, immigrants, and asylum seekers. The project was led by retired art teacher Susan Tiemstra, 4th grade teacher Julie Shramovich and 2nd grade teacher and GIRLS Club sponsor Kelly Turrentine. It was painted by Prospect art teachers.
