District 181 students, families and community supporters are encouraged to register for the Rotary Club of Hinsdale's 25th Anniversary Rotary Run Charity Classic, to be held in downtown Hinsdale the morning of Sunday, Oct. 6.

The event, which includes a variety of 3k to 10k walks and runs, is a community staple that supports local charities, including the District 181 Foundation. Proceeds from run registrations go toward the Foundation's efforts to support initiatives across District 181 such as student, parent, and teacher events, and grants for projects that promote student innovation, creativity, and social-emotional growth.

"Seeing our students, staff and families come together for this community event each year is a can't'-miss experience," said D181 Superintendent Dr. Hector Garcia. "Not only are we raising funds for the D181 Foundation and other local charities, we're coming together to build stronger relationships amongst each other and celebrate the work being done throughout our community."

The CARA-certified annual event will bring more than 2,500 participants and spectators. A variety of family activities will be featured, including vendor/sponsor booths and refreshments, music and more.

"Our goal this year, as always, is to positively impact the lives of many area residents," said Tom Norton, President of the Hinsdale Rotary Club.

Runs and walks include:

  • MPS-Loria 3k Run
  • Rooney Family 5k Run
  • Hinsdale Bank & Trust 10k Run
  • Molex 5k Walk
  • Napleton Porsche 3K Walk
  • The Birches Walk 'N Roll 3K Walk
  • The Mutt Strut 3K Walk

The World Famous D181 Mascot Race, where all nine D181 school mascots compete in a mad dash to the finish line, will also return this year. A surprise guest runner is scheduled to add to the competition, making this year's race one for the books.

Other charities benefiting include: The Community House, Hinsdale Hospital Foundation, Rotary Club of Hinsdale Foundation, and Ray Graham Association-Hanson Center.
