Notice: Positive COVID-19 Test Results
jlavigueur@d181.org

Dear D181 school community,

I hope you are all staying safe and feeling healthy.

We were made aware that two individuals, one who was onsite at Oak School and one who was onsite at Hinsdale Middle School, tested positive for COVID-19. The last time that these individuals were onsite while possibly contagious was Wednesday morning, Aug. 5. It was determined that no one was in close contact with these individuals. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a cumulative 15 minutes.

Please be assured that we have been in direct communication with the DuPage County Health Department (DCHD) and they reviewed this information prior to us sending you this message today. We have also shared this information with our legal counsel to ensure that we are meeting our legal obligations to protect these individuals' privacy.

The individuals who tested positive are remaining at home according to the Illinois Department of Public Health and Centers for Disease Control guidelines. Disinfecting in both HMS and Oak schools has been completed and the buildings will remain vacant over the weekend. Additionally, we will remain diligent in continuing to follow the appropriate safety and PPE guidelines in our buildings.

Below are additional resources from the DCHD for your reference:

We want to again share with our community how we are keeping our schools clean and safe and how we will continue to do so in the 2020-21 school year.

Cleaning Procedures and Protocols

On an ongoing basis, we have enhanced our cleaning procedures to meet or exceed the CDC and DCHD guidelines. Building custodians conduct cleaning and disinfection throughout the day. More details are included below.

All frequently touched surfaces (e.g., door handles/knobs, desktops/tabletops, countertops, light switches, phones, cubbies/coat and backpack areas, sinks, and faucets) will be disinfected regularly throughout each day. Restrooms, hallways, cafeterias, and high-touch common areas will be cleaned and disinfected throughout the day. Soft surfaces such as carpets and rugs will be cleaned daily. Items such as cloth toys or other cloth material items that cannot be disinfected will be eliminated.

Sanitation, hygiene, and PPE supplies are available for employee and student use. Hand sanitizer is available in all classrooms, offices, entrances, bathrooms, hallways, and lunch areas.

Signage is also placed throughout the building with reminders that masks are required, social distancing must be observed, and frequent hand-washing is encouraged.

Cleaning products used are Environmental Protection Agency-approved disinfectants for use against COVID-19. A CDC-approved disinfectant is used for disinfection along with our standard cleaning protocols. District-wide cleaning products being used by custodial staff only, for a clean-up in the event of a staff/student testing positive include:

  1. Phenomenal – By HOSPECO, a fogger EPA Reg. No. 44446-67, that meets EPA's criteria for use against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
  2. Oxivir (liquid and wipes) – a virucidal disinfectant EPA Reg. No. 70627-56, approved by the CDC for use in killing the SARS-CoV2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
  3. Lysol disinfecting Wipes – EPA Reg No. 777-114 a CDC approved disinfectant for use in killing the SARS-CoV2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

As a reminder, we ask that individuals report all positive cases of COVID-19 amongst students, family, and staff to the District by emailing District Certified Nurse Pam Barron at pbarron@d181.org so that we can take the necessary steps to ensure everyone's health and safety.

If you have additional questions, please email communicationsdepartment@d181.org who will work in partnership with our administrative team in responding to your questions and concerns.

Thank you,

Dr. Hector Garcia
