District 181 Again Awarded Meritorious Budget Award

For the second year in a row, the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) awarded Community Consolidated School District 181 the Meritorious Budget Award (MBA) for the 2022-23 budget year.  The MBA recognizes excellence in budget presentation and is the highest award possible.

This prestigious award places District 181 in the top 1 percent of performing school districts with award-winning transparency. The MBA is only given to school districts that have met or exceeded the rigorous Meritorious Budget Award criteria.
ASBO International’s MBA and introductory Pathway to the MBA programs promote and recognize excellence in school budget presentation. Program participation enhances school business officials’ skills in developing, analyzing, and presenting a school system budget. Participants submit their budget documents to a panel of school financial professionals who review the materials for compliance with the MBA Criteria Checklist and other requirements and provide expert feedback that districts can use to improve their budget documents.
“The budget is an excellent document that includes a wealth of information in graphic and narrative form,” stated ASBO, “It is user-friendly for the average taxpayer with abundant data to meet varied readers’ needs. Many components are suitable as stand-alone documents. The Review Team congratulates the District for their budget submission to the Meritorious Budget Award.”

“This is the highest national honor and recognition for budget content excellence a school district can receive,” said Rick Engstrom, District 181 Assistant Superintendent of Business & Operations.
“Being evaluated by resemblant school districts makes earning this award that much more special,” said Dr. Hector Garcia, District 181 Superintendent, “ It affirms that District 181 is committed to financial transparency and excellence.”
This is the second year the District has submitted its budget presentation for the award and the MBA is the highest designation possible from the ASBO.
