JOINT STATEMENT ON NEGOTIATIONS FROM SCHOOL DISTRICT 181 AND THE HINSDALE-CLARENDON HILLS TEACHERS’ ASSOCIATION
The Board of Education and the Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Teachers’ Association, the union that represents District 181’s 361 teachers, are engaged in ongoing teacher contract negotiations. The current contract with the teachers expired on June 30, 2019. Teachers are currently receiving last year’s rate of pay and benefits as we continue negotiations. We have a shared commitment to work in good faith to negotiate a multiyear contract that serves the best interests of all District 181 stakeholders – our students, teachers, and taxpayer community. Since negotiations began in late 2018, the negotiating teams from the Board and the Association have met more than 17 times, including three sessions with an independent mediator from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.
Additional mediation sessions are scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 16 and Monday, Oct. 28 to address the economic issues yet to be resolved, including salary and benefits. As appropriate, we will continue to provide timely updates on the status of negotiations via email and our district website.
