The Neighborhood Preschool

Oak Elementary School, Preschool/ECE

Since 1953, Oak Elementary School has been a cornerstone of the Hinsdale community and is proud to be a U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon School. Oak School is comprised of caring and talented students, excellent staff, and incredibly supportive families. It has earned a reputation for academic excellence and for supporting all students in their social-emotional learning. Oak also has the unique opportunity to house the Neighborhood Preschool Program which brings together the youngest learners from across the District. We are committed to preparing all our students to become lifelong learners, creative thinkers, and positive community contributors.

About Our ECE Program

The Neighborhood Preschool is a multi-aged community preschool program that is aligned with the district’s vision. The program incorporates research-based practices in a play-based model that includes active learning, creativity, exploration, and student initiated learning. Intentional instruction targets all areas of development with a strong focus on pre-literacy, math, science, language, self-regulation, and interpersonal skills.

Purpose:
To provide a quality and developmentally appropriate preschool program for all Community Consolidated School District 181 preschoolers.

Vision:
An innovative preschool program that excels in preparing children for today and tomorrow.

Mission:
It is the mission of the District 181 Neighborhood Preschool Program to provide opportunities for children to achieve their personal best in a safe, productive and nurturing classroom community. The Neighborhood Preschool believes that all children can learn and grow with research based, developmentally appropriate materials and practices and partnership with families, the community, and stakeholders.

A Message from Principal Nassis

I am honored to introduce myself as Oak School’s principal! I have over fourteen years of various teaching and leadership experiences in the field of education. Previously to joining District 181, I served Naperville School District 203 as an Elementary Assistant Principal, and Elmhurst School District 205 as an instructional coach, building literacy specialist, classroom teacher, and a leader of ongoing professional learning. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, a Master’s Degree in Reading Education, and a second Master’s Degree in School Improvement Leadership.

I continuously strive to be an active instructional building leader who understands school systems, leading transformative change, curriculum design and implementation, and increasing teacher capacity to elevate student learning. I believe that every child has the potential to learn and grow and impact our world in a positive and lasting way. At Oak School, I am confident that we will successfully accomplish District 181’s vision to help students develop the skills and confidence they need to change the world. I am proud to proclaim, “We are Oak School!”

Please do not hesitate to contact me about partnering together in the pursuit for every child to be seen, valued, and continuously supported in their lifelong learning and growing.

Respectfully,
Effey Nassis
