District 181 report card has new look

In the next two weeks, parents across Community Consolidated School District 181 will receive the first report card of the 2010-11 school year. The district has made some changes to the way it looks and the way it arrives.

There are two reasons for the changes. The report card look has changed because the district has a new student information system, which stores the grade and attendance data used to create the reports. The former report card was a district-created document. While possible to design the new report card to closely resemble the former district-created document, the cost to do so would have been approximately $10,000.

“The two documents are very similar and we believe that our revenues are better spent on instruction than on duplicating a report card design,” Superintendent Renée Schuster said November 2. “Having reviewed both, I am confident that our parents will very easily become familiar with the new look to the report card.”

The second change, the method of delivery, only will be different for middle school students. To eliminate first-class postage costs for mailing the report cards, the district is sending them home with students. Superintendent Schuster will send middle school parents a voice message on November 11, to let them know that they can expect report cards to come home with their children the next day. Elementary students have traditionally brought report cards home in their backpacks.
