Elm School 5th Graders Share Holiday Tales With 1st Grade “Buddies”
Posted December 28, 2012
The Elm School fifth graders had the chance to practice reading, writing, and speaking in truly creative fashion in December. The students re-wrote classic fairy tales using holiday themes and then created large-scale illustrated books featuring their stories. They found an eager and enthusiastic audience in the Elm first graders, who rotated through the school’s Media Resource Center on December 21 to hear each of the student-authored tales. Jack and the Beanstalk, The Three Little Pigs, and Little Red Riding Hood were just some of the well-known tales to get a winter twist that featured characters such as polar bears, penguins and elves. Fifth grade teacher Matt Haeger notes that the project has been an Elm School tradition for more than a decade.
