Posted December 20, 2012
Three students from Hinsdale Middle School were recently recognized as the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners of the local VFW Patriot’s Pen essay contest. The Patriot's Pen program is open to students in grades 6-8. The theme for this year’s essay was: “What I Would Tell America’s Founding Fathers.” Essays were to be between 300 and 400 words. Knowledge of the theme, theme development, and clarity of ideas were the three items judged by the panel.
The winning students from HMS were Seetha Aribindi, Ayan Agarwal, and James Mathew. Members of the local VFW were on hand at the school to present certificates to the students. Members Ed Oldis, Dennis Bolsega, John Olsen, James Sedivil, and Nick Darien outlined their service and shared stories about their time spent in defense of the country in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Mathew’s essay won 1st place and will be entered in the next stage of the Patriot’s Pen contest.
