Student Registration Deadline Extended to May 29

District 181 is holding online registration and accepting residency verification for the 2013-14 school year beginning Wednesday, May 8 for parents of students currently in kindergarten and Grades 1-7. The deadline for registration and residency verification has been extended through Wednesday, May 29. A list of acceptable residency documents, a registration Parent Guide and further information are available on the District website at www.d181.org > Resources > Registration.

D181 Family Resource Network Earns INSPRA Award Of Excellence

Family Resource Network Parent Liaisons Lainey Hately and Jennifer Zock have been honored with an Award of Excellence from the Illinois Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association (INSPRA). The distinction was given as part of the INSPRA Distinguished Service Awards, an event held on May 2, 2013 at the Park Ridge Country Club to recognize staff, parents, residents, Board members and students who have gone above and beyond in their roles and have effectively served as public relations ambassadors through their leadership and commitment.

Madison And Monroe Schools Earns Blue Ribbon Awards For P.E. Program

Both Madison School and Monroe School have earned the Blue Ribbon Schools Award from the Illinois Association of Health Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (IAHPERD). The designation, which is effective for a five-year period (2013-2018), followed a review of the physical education programs, visits to the schools, interviews with staff, students, parents, administration and Board members, as well as consideration by a state-level panel. The award recognizes the best physical education and health programs in the state; all Illinois public, parochial and alternative schools are eligible. During the review process, the school curriculum was measured against state and national professional standards and those of the Illinois State Board of Education.

District 181 Board Approves Dawn Benaitis as Next Director Of Curriculum, Assessment And Instruction

On May 6, 2013, the Community Consolidated School District 181 Board of Education approved the hiring of Dawn Benaitis as the Director of Learning (Curriculum, Assessment and Instruction), effective July 1, 2013. She will fill the vacancy created by Kevin Russell, who will become the District’s Assistant Superintendent for Learning (Curriculum).

District 181 Summer Learning Program Registration Open Now

Registration is now open for the Community Consolidated School District 181 Summer Learning Program. A comprehensive array of summer school courses is being offered for students who will enter Grades 1-8 in 2013-14. This year’s program will be held at Prospect School from Tuesday, June 11 through Wednesday, July 3. Classes are open to all District 181 students and interested age-appropriate students outside the District 181 community.

This year's Summer Learning Program will include classes in four areas: Enrichment, Learning 'Skill-Builder' Classes, Advanced Learning, and Music. The thirty-three enrichment courses range from painting and comic book design to guitar and insect studies. Courses also include focuses on writing, reading, mathematics, and organization/study skills. -
District 181 Celebrates Crossing Guard Appreciation Day

Community Consolidated School District 181 will officially recognize its dedicated and hard-working crossing guards on Tuesday, May 7, proclaimed as Crossing Guard Appreciation Day in Illinois. Each District 181 elementary school will specially thank the guards on May 7 through handmade cards from students, tokens of appreciation from staff and the Parent-Teacher Organizations, and well wishes from local families.

District 181 Recognizes Ambassadors Of Excellence

On April 22, 2013, the Community Consolidated Board of Education recognized over 70 students who were named Ambassadors of Excellence for their achievements in chess, vocabulary, writing, geographic knowledge, problem solving, general academic knowledge, and volleyball.

District 181 Student Begins Special Needs Basketball Team with Help of Foundation Grant

When Hinsdale Middle School student Conor Donlevy learned about the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others through a grant from the Foundation of Community Consolidated School District 181, he applied immediately. Donlevy was one of the first recipients of a D181 Foundation KIDS (Kids Initiating a Difference in Society) Grant in the 2012-13 school year. Foundation President Megan Balderston explains that KIDS Grants support creative and varied student-driven projects that benefit the community and the environment. Once a grant is approved, students can receive up to $150 to implement their ideas. Applicants must describe the purpose of their proposal, the tasks they will accomplish, note who they will be working with, explain when and where any activities will take place, and submit an estimated budget.

Walker School To Participate In Technology Demonstration At State Capitol

TECH 2013 is a not-for-profit initiative presented by Illinois Computing Educators (ICE).

Parent Survey Open Now on Staff Collaboration, Late Start

The Community Consolidated School District 181 Board of Education is considering the addition of eight two-hour late start days in the 2013-14 school year as one way to “provide more time for staff collaboration, data review, and sharing of best practices so that the entire team of educators can provide a more tailored educational experience designed to meet students’ individual needs,” according to Superintendent Dr. Renée Schuster. All District 181 parents and community members are being encouraged to review the Frequently Asked Questions document on the subject, available at www.d181.org > Resources > Collaborative Staff Time / Late Start. In an effort to help gauge the level of support for staff collaborative time and the possible implementation of late start, District 181 parents are being invited to complete an online survey, available on the above-mentioned webpage now through May 3.
