Academics

Community Consolidated School District 181 provides a curriculum that is rigorous and has been aligned with the Illinois Learning Standards. Students in District 181 experience instruction through differentiation of lessons. Teachers design lessons and activities to meet the needs of students at their instructional level.

Our academic program offers course work on grade level in all academic areas as well as enriched and advanced classes for students. We provide many programs that are designed to meet the needs of students at all levels. We offer a variety of specialized programs for our students who needs services special education. The Affective Cognitive Enriched program is offered to those students who are highly cognitive and have been formally identified as gifted. These students are served through the ACE program in grades three through eight. Our elementary program is hosted at Monroe Elementary School one day a week. The middle school ACE program is offered through the social studies curriculum and the gifted specialist works with these students on a daily basis.

Hinsdale School District 181 is considered a high performing school district. We use a variety of assessments to measure student progress annually. Data driven decisions are made to enhance instruction and meet the needs of all learners.

We offer a variety of courses to all students. The core academic program includes Reading, Math, Writing, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, physical education and Foreign Language. Foreign Language is taught to students in grades 5-8 for Spanish and French in grades 6-8 for the 2010-2011 school year. During the 2010-2011 school year we will be focusing on renewing our reading, language arts and writing curriculum to align with the new Core Academic Standards. Initial training for staff in the area of early literacy began this past May and will continue to be developed over the summer.

Hinsdale School District 181 offers a variety of Encore classes at the elementary and middle schools. Art, music, instrumental music, choral music, applied technology, Family consumer science, drama, academic strategies, english language services and much more. Each school's website will provide more information as it relates to activities and events that are sponsored by the encore staff.
