Guide to Assessments

Access ELLs is a standards-based criterion referenced English language proficiency test designed to measure English language learners' social and academic proficiency in English. It assesses social and instructional English as well as the language associated with language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies within the school context across the four language domains.

AIMSweb Early Literacy assessments measure students' acquisition of early reading skills and are indicators of future reading success. These assessments are individually given one-minute snapshots of reading performance administered to all students three times per year and more frequently to students in the early reading intervention program.

AIMSweb Oral Reading Fluency measures students' knowledge of early literacy skills and ability to apply this to reading grade level reading passages. This is a one-minute fluency assessment administered to all students three times per year and more frequently to students in the reading intervention program.

GATES (Gates Mac Ginitie) is a reading achievement test that provides information about a child's overall reading performance in vocabulary and comprehension.

ISAT (Illinois Standards Achievement Tests) mandated by the State of Illinois. They measure how well students are performing on Illinois goals and standards.

ISEL (Illinois Snapshot of Early Literacy) is a reading assessment that measures a student's early literacy development in the areas of phonemic awareness and phonics. These assessments are administered at the beginning and end of the year.

MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) is an adaptive assessment used to monitor student growth over time and adjusts item difficulty based on this student's response. The system targets the instructional level of each child in reading, math, and language usage.

PM Benchmark Assessment is used to determine a child's independent and instructional reading levels. This assessment will be used to match students with appropriate texts that will be used during small group targeted instruction.
