District 181 Foundation Thanks Donors, Awards Grants To Teachers, Students, Parents

Following a reception to honor major donors and grant recipients, the District 181 Foundation announced 2011-12 grants and special initiatives totaling $124,315. The grant program supports innovative and creative proposals that the Foundation hopes will someday have district wide application. Grants went to teachers, students and parents at Clarendon Hills Middle School, Elm, Hinsdale Middle School, Madison, Monroe, The Lane, Oak, Prospect and Walker schools.

Two District 181 Schools Earn Top State Award for Physical Education Programs

Three Students Earn Hinsdale Rotary's Youth Merit Award

Three students who attend Clarendon Hills Middle School and Hinsdale Central High School received the Rotary Club of Hinsdale’s Youth Merit Award Friday, May 4, 2012. This award recognizes high school and middle school students for scholarship, leadership and service. The May 4 program was the eighth Youth Merit Award presentation of the 2011-12 school year. Monroe Grade 4 Students Speak To Gandhi's Grandson

For 81 fourth-grade students, their teachers, and two parent volunteers, Friday, April 27, was an international learning success.

After spending a month engaged in looking for a solution to a longstanding dispute between Pakistan and India, students shared their ideas with Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson, Rajmohan Gandhi. The 35-minute phone call gave the students insight into the issues they had researched as well as answers to their questions about Rajmohan Gandhi’s famous grandfather. It also opened a door to conversations with the Indian consulate in Chicago. -
District 181 Board Approves Casey Godfrey as New Principal of The Lane School

With a unanimous vote at a special meeting, the Community Consolidated School District 181 Board approved the employment of Casey James Godfrey as the next principal of The Lane School in Hinsdale, effective July 1, 2012. He will fill the vacancy created by Doug Eccarius’ appointment as the District 181 Executive Director of Human Resources.

District 181 To Honor Crossing Guards

Community Consolidated School District 181 will officially thank its hard-working crossing guards on Tuesday. May 1, Crossing Guard Appreciation Day in Illinois. Each District 181 elementary school will recognize its guard or guards according to the school's tradition: some guards receive gift cards, others are treated to a reception to honor them, and some will leave their posts laden with handmade cards, plates of cookies and bouquets of spring blooms. In addition, District 181 Central Office Administrators will visit guards at their posts to thank them personally and to deliver a copy of the Board of Education's resolution honoring them, adopted April 23. District 181 relies on 22 guards to control traffic at the seven elementary schools located in Burr Ridge, Clarendon Hills and Hinsdale.

Summer School Registration Underway

It may only be April, but it's not too early to register for exciting summer school learning opportunities. Community Consolidated School District 181’s 2012 Summer School session features classes in reading, writing, and mathematics, along with 27 enrichment classes that range from art to study skills. Courses are open to students who are currently in kindergarten through grade 7.

Community Consolidated School District 181 has received the SchoolSearch™ 2012 Bright Red Apple™ Award for educational excellence. SchoolSearch™ honors seventy-nine (79) Illinois School Districts (out of 868 school districts) with the Bright Red Apple™ Award based on five key factors collected from the 2011 Illinois Report Card: Academic Performance, Pupil/Teacher Ratio, Expenditure Per Pupil, Educational Level of Teachers, and Average Teacher Salary. District 181 is considered strong in all five family-favored categories. This is the 19th consecutive year that District 181 has earned the designation.
